£ Public Distribution System (PDS) :-
- FCI distribute the food procured from the farmer, through government regulated ration shop, It is called the PDS.
- Ration Shops are also known fair price shops, stock of food grains, sugar, Kerosene and cooking.
- Rationing in India was introduced during the 1910 against the back drop of Bengal Famine.
- In the mid 1970's there important food instruction program were introduced .
★ PDS for a food grain.
★ ICDS for child dev.
★ FFW food for work.
- At present there are several poverty allevation programs (PAP)s mostly in rural area, which have an explicit food component also employment programs greatly contribute to food security by increasing the income the poor.
# Criticism :-
- The PDS has faced several Criticism on several ground. A high level of Buffer stock of food grains is very undesirable and wasteful.
